Vaccine confidence in Japan is low1 compared to other countries. The latest data we have for Japan is from surveys conducted in 2022 which showed that 61% of people feel that vaccines are safe and 74% think they are effective. 54% of those surveyed said they believe it’s important for children to have vaccines and 36% feel that vaccines are compatible with their religious beliefs.

Confidence in vaccines in Japan has declined since the first surveys carried out there. In 2015, 56% of people felt that vaccines were safe while 74% thought they were effective. 82% said they believed it was important for children to have vaccines and 33% felt that vaccines were compatible with their religious beliefs.
